Master of Science in Botany (M. Sc. Botany) is a branch of biology that deals with the scientific study of plants. Botany covers a good range of scientific disciplines associated with the study of plants, algae, and fungi, including their structure, growth, reproduction, metabolism, growth, disease, chemical properties, reproduction, and developmental classification.
The syllabus covers all related subjects of the study area, agriculture, horticulture, sericulture. Therefore it will not only be limited to theoretical knowledge but will also provide practical knowledge. The course duration is 2 years and the syllabus for the course is divided into 4 semesters. Being a PG Botany course, the aim is to produce intellectual and skilled botanists, who enhance student"s abilities and skills for the application of botany principles and expertise in line problems faced by industry and farmers. After the completion of this degree course, many job scopes are open to the candidates. The botany discipline focuses not only on unicellular bacteria or multi-cellular algae but also on various complex life forms of the plant kingdom, from extinct gymnosperms to ever-evolving angiosperms. The traditional knowledge of a plant and its use of genetic diversity and its ethnography along with the application of DNA technology attracts students to choose for this course.

M. Sc. Botany Career graduates can go for many fields in botany such as given below;-
- Pathology:- A pathologist examines or supervises blood, other body fluids, bodily secretions and tissue samples taken in surgery or as part of a medical test or autopsy. ... Furthermore, some pathologists see patients and may be directly involved in the performance of procedures and delivery of care.
- Palaeobiology:- The main job of paleobiologists is to study how biological life has evolved. a university degree in geology, earth science, paleontology, paleontology or a related field of study. Knowledge of field studies in varying and sometimes extreme environmental and weather conditions.
- Palynology:- Palynology, science concerned with the study of plant pollen, spores, and certain microscopic planktonic organisms, in both living and fossil form. Palynology also has applications in archaeology, forensic science and crime scene investigation, and allergy studies.
- Plant Cytology:- Cytology is the study of cells, particularly their appearance and structure. Plastid (present only in plant cells): contains the chemicals required for photosynthesis (make energy from sunlight); in plants only. Nucleus: Directs the functions of the cell.
- Geneticists:- Geneticists study genes and the science of heredity (hereditary traits are passed down through generations). They specifically conduct experiments to work out the origin and governing laws of inherited symptoms, like medical conditions and seek the determinants (such as disease antagonists) liable for these symptoms.
- Plant ecology:- They maintain ecological balance by providing oxygen to living organisms and absorbing carbon dioxide released from them. Oxygen is also necessary for the fire which provides us with heat and food. Plants also are an excellent source of shelter for several organisms and a crucial part of food chains within an ecosystem.
- Plant Scientists:- Plant scientists play an important role in maintaining the country"s food supply by ensuring agricultural productivity and food security. Some plant scientists studied the reproduction, physiology, and management of crops and used genetic engineering to develop pests, drought-resistant crops.
- Weed Scientists:- Weed scientists play an important role in the management of vegetation. This may include learning to identify and combat or determine weeds.
After completion of the course student can choose many fields in Botany like Plant Taxonomy, Ethnobiology, Pathology, Paleobiology and Paleontology, Plant Cytology, Plant Genetology, Plant Ecology, Plant Ecology Scientist and Weed Scientist, etc.
