M. Sc. (Forestry)

M. Sc. Forestry is the 2 year post graduate program that is art and science of tree resources including plantation and natural stands. It is an independent scientific branch which deals with practical and theoretical aspects of various aspects of forestry with its proper management. Those with a bachelor"s degree and master"s degree in forestry can apply to the state government as well as to the central government through the Indian Forest Service (IFS) examination.

M. Sc. Forestry Career

After completing the M. Sc. forestry you are eligible to apply in some of the following streams are given below:-

  • Entomologist:-  Entomologist is a scientist who studies pests. Entomologists also study urban pests, forest pests, agricultural pests, and medical and veterinary pests and their control. These scientists can accompany beneficial insects such as honey, silkworms, ladybird beetles and parasitic wasps.
  • Ethologist:- Ethology is the study of the behavior of animals. As a subset of zoology, ethics examines animal aggression, mating habits, and processes such as signaling. Ethologists use both laboratory and field science methods.
  • Silviculturalists:- Silviculturalists are those who care for our trees, in particular, the trees of our forests. They plan to control forest regeneration, structure, development, and quality. Specially trained in identifying diseases and pests, they help to keep trees healthy and growing on our planet.
  • Zoo curators: -  The curators must coordinate and manage all aspects of the care of the animals for which they are responsible. Their duties may include the acquisition of animals from other zoos or wilds, monitoring breeding activities and educating the general public.

M. Sc. Forestry scope

M. Sc. Forestry in specializations such as Forest Management, Commercial Forestry, Forest Economics, Wood Science and Technology, Wildlife Science, and Veterinary Science requires B. Sc. Forestry or a graduate degree in related fields. Post-graduates for Forestry or related Master programs may go for PhD. Students can build their career in various organisations in the private and Govt sector with great salary packages.
